Ring the Bells

Join JESSA for Ring the Bells, for our final concert of 2024. We are proud to perform a gorgeous selection of festive Christmas repertoire, including by Bob Chilcott, Philip Stopford, Kim André Arnesen, Vaughan Williams, and Eugene Butler. The superb June Tyzack joins us as guest conductor. Celebrate the end of the year with JESSA, and make a joyous start to the holiday season.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our spring programme, The Sun Never Says, has been postponed. We look forward to seeing you an our annual Christmas season performance on 13 December 2024. Thank you for your understanding.

From profound to capricious, contemplative to exuberant, The Sun Never Says showcases JESSA’s artistry in repertoire from England, Canada, Norway, South Korea, Australia and the USA. This remarkable programme highlights music’s ability to convey powerful social messages, and to entertain.
Composers of note include the brilliant Joshua Shank, Thomas Lavoy, Dominic DiOrio, Kim Arnesen and Dan Forrest, as well as beloved Australians Paul Stanhope and Dan Walker.
We are overjoyed to welcome Meriel Owen as guest pianist, and Tracey Patten on percussion. Rumours of appearances by a-ha, Kate Miller-Heidke and a duck cannot be confirmed at this time.

One of our performances at Festival of Voices 2024. This performance marked two years since our first performance as an ensemble.
Featuring 11 contrasting vocal ensembles representing capital cities and regional areas around Australia, Voices@5 has something for everyone across five weekday concerts.
This year, we shared the perforwance with the wonderful Concordis Chamber Choir, visiting from Melbourne.

JESSA’s Autumn 2024 performance was She Walks In Beauty, an exquisite programme highlighting themes of hope, renewal and transformation, through the lens of female composers. JESSA was proud to perform the music of iconic women, including Sally Whitwell, Sarah Quartel, Joan Szymko, Billie Eilish, and Reena Esmail.

Christmas Sing (2023)

Our final concert of 2023 featured rare and beautiful arrangements of Yuletide carols and songs. Instrumental soloists, as well as some of Hobart’s leading singers, featured in solos and duets.

Join us for Spring Sing 2023, a concert filled with wondrous repertoire.
Immerse yourselves in choral beauty, with what we think is JESSA's best programme yet. Featuring works by American, English, Norwegian, Estonian and Finnish composers, we showcase gems by Dan Forrest, Jake Runestad, Frank Ticheli, Pärt Uusberg, Jussi Chydenius and Kim André Arnesen, as well as other gorgeous surprises.
We'll be joined by guest instrumentalists Tracey Patten (percussion) and Lucy Carrig (violin), with Michael Power on piano, and Jane Edwards conducting.

Autumn Sing (2023)

JESSA launched our 2023 season with this hour-long concert, featuring gorgeous repertoire by composers including Lyn Williams, Ben van Tienen, Sara Bareilles, Morton Lauridsen and The Wailin' Jennys. This concert was a lovely chance to celebrate Mothers' Day weekend with our beautiful soprano and alto voices, conductor Jane Edwards and pianist Michael Power.

Festival of Christmas (2022)
Wednesday December 21st 2pm and 7pm | Theatre Royal Studio Theatre, nipaluna / Hobart
After a sold-out 2021 season the Venus Creative team brought the FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS back to the Theatre Royal in 2022. The show featured some of Tasmania’s best talent, with dazzling choral performances, vocal solos, and dance of all styles.
JESSA was excited to contribute to the program with a pair of stunning choral works.

Noël Nouvelet (2022)

JESSA’s first Christmas celebration, Noël Nouvelet!
Joining us were readers Ryk Goddard, Jeffrey Kevin, the Rev'd Christopher Waterhouse, Noreen Le Mottee, Gillian Unicomb, Jane Longhurst and Dr Julie Rimes. The performance featured flautists Rosemary Holloway and Tess Archer, as well as violinists Callum Wherrett and Gracie Katharine Middleton.
Proceeds were donated to charity.
